Congratulations to Senior Caribou Ecologist Melanie Dickie who was awarded the Georgina Mace Prize 2023: Early Career Researcher Award from the British Ecological Society.

The award celebrates the best article in the journal Ecological Solutions and Evidence by an early career researcher. The article,¬†Applying remote sensing for large-landscape problems: Inventorying and tracking habitat recovery for a broadly distributed Species At Risk used multiple remote sensing tools to collect data on woodland caribou habitat in the boreal forests of Canada.¬†Photogrammetry and lidar data were fused to gain a detailed understanding of vegetation type and height on anthropogenic features. It’s a promising technique for efficiently cataloguing vegetation across large areas to inform restoration planning for woodland caribou habitat.
